Heavy floods striking the DPRK

During the past weeks, heavy flood have been striking several parts of the DPRK. Huge areas of agricultural lands have been ruined as well as water systems, which have resulted in food shortage, not only a shortage that immediately will affect the country, but also for the near future. According to an assessment conducted by UN agencies in two counties in North Pyongyang Province on 24 July, more than 45,000 people lost their homes, 18 are reported missing and 33 people are reported dead, due to the floods. A second assessment conducted by the DPRK government has shown that the number of homeless people has decreased as the waters have begun to recede.
