Dear Leader Comrade Kim Jong Il who passed away three years ago on December 17, was a friend of all progressive people’s of the world and helped them in their efforts to seek independence, while at the same time leading the Korean people through the Arduous March of the 90’s, where hundreds of thousands of Koreans died from starvation due to floods and droughts and after the Arduous March he led the construction of the prosperous socialist society. The US-implemented sanctions against the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) was nothing but a vicious attempt to smash the socialist system of the DPRK. By the end of the 90’s, the Korean people have managed to go through the Arduous March together under the firm Songun (military first) leadership of Dear Leader comrade Kim Jong Il. While the enemies of the DPRK claims that the Arduous March was the result caused by natural disasters as well as the Songun policy, we can just agree on the first mentioned, but not the latter. The DPRK lost all significant trade partners when the Soviet Union disbanded in 1991 as well as when the revisionists took over the Communist Party of China (in a coup led by Deng Xiaoping where all the prominent communists were jailed and market economy was introduced in China, which came to lead to the nationwide protests that eventually resulted in the massacre on the Tiananmen Square in 1989).
When considering that situation combined with the US sanctions against the DPRK, leaving the DPRK on their own, no other country survived through those harsh conditions as those of the Arduous March. The Songun policy was not the cause of the Arduous March, but without the Songun policy, the country would most likely have been invaded and torn apart by the US imperialists and a situation like those witnessed today in many 3rd World countries would be everlasting. The Korean people have first-hand experience of what the US imperialists are capable of, so there would never have been an option for them to surrender to the demands of the US imperialists. Under the Songun leadership of Kim Jong Il, the Korean People’s Army (KPA) have developed its role as the revolutionary class of the DPRK. A soldier in the KPA is not just a soldier, but a worker who is a soldier. Every man and woman of the KPA have decided to give their life for the people, party and the leader and to defend the single-minded unity of the three mentioned. Soldiers of the KPA are seen on the fields with the peasants when it’s time for harvest or at construction sites when new houses are being built, but when the US imperialists and its South Korean puppets makes their moves, the KPA are ready to defend the people, party and the leader. That’s why the soldiers of the KPA have transformed into the revolutionary class of the DPRK, as they are the most patriotic of workers and peasants, dedicating their lives to the socialist construction.
Dear Leader Comrade Kim Jong Il followed the path of socialism that President Kim Il Sung followed since before the birth of the DPRK from the days of the anti-colonial struggle against the Japanese imperialists. Freedom fighters all over the world, from the Black Panther Party in the US to the MPLA (People’s Movement for the Liberation of Angola) who fought the fascists of the Portugese colonizers and the training of divisions of the ZANLA (Zimbabwe African National Liberation Army) who fought the white racist minority rule in Zimbabwe. Among the most famous of struggles that the DPRK supported in different ways were the ANC (African National Congress) in South Africa against the Apartheid rule or when the Soviet Union denied to support Cuba in the event of a US invasion where Fidel Castro asked for guns as the imperialist threat was constantly lurking in the bays of Cuba. When the then current leader of the Soviet Union, Yuri Andropov, turned Cuba down, Kim Il Sung who was a “veteran and an impeachable combatant sent 100,000 AK-47’s without charging a cent”, according to Fidel Castro. Freedom fighters and progressive people did always enjoy support from Kim Il Sung’s and Kim Jong Il’s Korea. Today Kim Jong Un follows the path of Juche-based socialism and Songun on the behalf of the Korean people, and still today, when the DPRK are under the most fierce fire from the US imperialists, they still maintain the support to freedom fighters with material and political support, for example in Palestine and Syria. Kim Jong Il have shown the world that it’s possible to resist an enemy that appears to be the most superior of all possible enemies, but like the Korean People’s Army showed in the Fatherland Liberation War, the US imperialists is nothing but a paper tiger.
“General Kim Jong Il determined that the line of the Songun revolution be held fast to as long as the enemies survive and their aggressive attempts continue. He has unfolded the Songun politics and defended socialism with the might of the Songun politics and advanced the independent cause of the mankind. “
